For years now, I do not work on my birthday. I think it is that one day in the year when I should not be thinking of anything but myself. Hhhmmm, that sounds a bit too selfish. But hey, it's my birthday!
But this year, unfortunately, I could not get out of work.
And so off I went on a 72-hour trip in Yangon. 65 of which were spent at the hotel.
Thank God, I was still able to escape and witness for myself the alluring charm of Myanmar. Enough for me to decide that I shall be back...
My chill-out spot at The Belmond Governor’s Residence, a Victorian-style hotel in Yangon.
Let me lead you to paradise...
...that is the fabulous pool of the property!
Love the old feel of this bungalow, in the same property as the 1920s teak mansion.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is also known as the Golden Pagoda.
In this spot, the locals believe that prayers are answered.
This is the most crowded yet solemn area in the property.
One can feel the solemnity of the place as everyone offers their prayers.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in the country. Our guide said that on the tip of the pagoda are treasures that the locals offer, including a very expensive diamond. Generosity and giving back are important values for the Burmese.
